Dear TA Community,

After seven visionary years as the inaugural full-time CEO of Tides Advocacy, Romy Avila has made the thoughtful –but difficult decision to embark on a new chapter. Under Romy’s leadership, our organization has expanded its reach and deepened its impact, fostering a culture of radical love and unwavering perseverance that has driven us to challenge the increments of change and strive for transformation.

Change, though inevitable, brings opportunities for growth and renewal. We are dedicated to our mission, to each of you as our partners, and to the broader fight for justice and equity. Our foundation is strong, and we are confident in our collective capacity to continue making a significant impact.

The love we share within our community, inspired by the profound words of bell hooks, serves as our guiding light. It compels us to operate from a place of love, committing to be the nation’s first pro-Black fiscal sponsor and to advocate for the safety, well-being, and liberation of those we serve. Your advocacy, activism, and vision inspire us to believe in a more inclusive democracy and a future where every voice is heard and every community can thrive.

As we embrace this transition period, Vincent Jones, the current Board Chairperson of Tides Advocacy, has been appointed Acting Interim CEO. We pledge to continue our work with renewed vigor, guided by the values of love, care, and radical imagination. Your ongoing support and partnership are the bedrock of our achievements. This next phase for Tides Advocacy is not possible without your invaluable experience and perspectives, and we look forward to working with you all in the coming months as we journey ahead.

Please join us in honoring our former CEO and “Chief Love Officer,” Romy Avila, for her compassion and dedication to transforming a 25-year institution through our pro-Black framework in pursuit of love and centering the strength of political infrastructure for movements.

Thank you for your steadfast support and your belief in the power of our collective action.

With deepest gratitude and warmest regards,

The Tides Advocacy Team
